In February I got a chance to revisit Hawaii’s Big and Oahu islands and some images have been added to the Hawaii gallery. Compared to my last visit some 15 years ago, both islands have seen a considerable amount of new development, with large exclusive resorts having sprung especially on the leeward coast of the Big Island. Nonetheless, the place remains beautiful and wilderness can still be found if you know where to look.
But of course there are still plenty of beaches, even on Oahu, that are not that crowded. All you need to do is leave Waikiki.
One of my favourite spots on the Big Island is the Pu`uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park, simply because it is in a pristine spot and has been left undeveloped due to its historical significance to the Hawaiian people.
