All colour images are also available as black & white prints. The b&w previews offered here are produced by simply desaturating the image via Javascript. The result is a neutral b&w preview which may appear flat or too dark/bright. Before printing, however, each image is individually assessed and adjusted for best contrast, tonal quality, and dynamic range.
Shrines and Temples of Nikko
The UNESCO World Heritage Site Shrines and Temples of Nikkō is located in the mountains about 1h North of Tokyo. The site comprises more than 100 buildings and is set amid a beautiful mature forest. While most of the buildings are part of the Futarasan and Tōshō-gū Shinto shrines, there is also one Buddihst temple (Rinnō-ji). All of these structures are either National Treasures of Japan or Important Cultural Properties. In 1994, the UNESCO declared Nikko a World Heritage Site.
