black & white previews
All colour images are also available as black & white prints. The b&w previews offered here are produced by simply desaturating the image via Javascript. The result is a neutral b&w preview which may appear flat or too dark/bright. Before printing, however, each image is individually assessed and adjusted for best contrast, tonal quality, and dynamic range.

Stone dog sculpture at Kyoto´s Inari shrine
Stone dog sculpture at Kyoto´s Inari shrine
The dog-shaped sculptures at the entrance to a shrine are mythical guardians that typically come in pairs. So-called `a-hum´ pairs : one `a´ dog with an open mouth and one `hum´dog with a closed mouth. This concept originated in India where the letter `A´ is the sound of opening ones mouth and `hum´ is the sound of closing it.
