All colour images are also available as black & white prints. The b&w previews offered here are produced by simply desaturating the image via Javascript. The result is a neutral b&w preview which may appear flat or too dark/bright. Before printing, however, each image is individually assessed and adjusted for best contrast, tonal quality, and dynamic range.

Uros island in Lake Titikaka
These islands are constructed out of reed that grows in the lake. They consist of several layers of reed to provide the necessary buoyancy to carry the people and their houses. While the lower layers slowly decay, fresh layers or reed are continuously added to the top. Historically the Uros people started to live on these islands as they were denied ownership to land under the Spanish rule. They developed their own language and culture.
